In the artist’s sculptural production, the Pomona Jesi exhausts a theme developed since the mid-1930s: from a primitive archaism, through an increasingly essential elaboration, such as can be seen in the Pomona Jesi of 1940, to this imposing architectural construction which, Valsecchi noted, “is the extreme plastic concentration of Marino Marini’s figures (…) entirely absorbed in the harmonious detachment of its curves.” Lo scultore traspone l’antico mito mediterraneo della fertilità in un’immagine di concreta fisicità, che trova puntuale riscontro in alcuni disegni da lui realizzati in quello stesso anno.
