Palazzo Citterio Opens to the Public:
The Beginning of a New Great Brera

After more than 50 years of waiting, Palazzo Citterio will finally open to the public on Dec. 8, 2024, fulfilling the visionary dream of Franco Russoli, the historic director of the Brera Art Gallery, who as early as 1972 envisioned a cultural and artistic expansion of the “Great Brera.”

Located at 12-14 Brera Street, the Palazzo now becomes a hub for modern and contemporary art, offering spaces dedicated to permanent displays and major temporary exhibitions.

The restoration and refurbishment of the Palace, overseen by Mario Cucinella Architects, represents a balance between tradition and innovation. The architectural interventions brought back the beauty of the 18th-century palace, integrating it with modern elements that enhance the exhibition spaces.

The main floor houses the prestigious Jesi and Vitali collections, which include more than 200 works by artists such as Boccioni, Modigliani, Morandi, Picasso and Carrà. The Stirling Room and the space on the second floor are dedicated to temporary exhibitions, consolidating Palazzo Citterio as a cultural center of reference for modern and contemporary art.

Opening Exhibitions
To celebrate this opening, Palazzo Citterio presents three extraordinary exhibitions:

“La Grande Brera. Una comunità di arti e scienze”: A journey through the architectural and cultural history of the Brera complex, from the 14th century to the present day, edited by Luca Molinari.

“Mario Ceroli. La forza di sognare ancora”: Ten site-specific installations by the artist, created specifically for Stirling Hall, exploring themes related to nature and human interaction.

“Renaissance Dreams – Capitolo II, Architettura” di Refik Anadol: An immersive digital installation that explores the intersection of art, architecture and technology. This extraordinary work, generated through artificial intelligence, transforms the visual and textual data of the Italian Renaissance, offering a unique experience for visitors.
