The work, purchased by Emilio Jesi from the Barbaroux Gallery in Milan and donated to the Pinacoteca in 1976, inaugurates, like two other dead natures from the same years in the collection, an experimental composition, enclosed in a single block and destined to become canonical in the artist’s production.
The objects, a pipe, two shells, a jar, a tin box and a basket, are as if dematerialized by a dense and dissolving pictorial drafting, in an atmosphere of dark, crepuscular colors.
