Marini takes up here the typology of the recumbent female figure, which he had elaborated in various works of the late 1920s, such as Figura femminile of 1929 or Dormiente of 1929-1930, and combines it with the new image of the Pomona, which from 1935 and for about fifteen years will constitute one of his few, obsessive motifs of research (alongside the horseman, the theater people and the portrait). Una pacatezza armonica e un senso di sublimazione atemporale sono tradotti entro una forma chiusa ed essenziale; da questa Marini ha bandito ogni divagazione narrativa, anche potendone trovare felici espressioni, che peraltro non trascurò di studiare, nelle sculture di Arturo Martini.
