The painting, assigned by Vitali to 1929 on the basis of the date of the reverse engraving, known in only three examples, Paesaggio in controluce con la casetta bianca, has an unusual compositional structure, layered, light and severe colors, which isolate it in the artist’s path.
It was part of the collection of Pietro Feroldi, a Brescian collector and great admirer of Morandi, purchased in 1949 by Gianni Mattioli and partly sold by him over the next two years. It is not known whether this landscape also passed from Feroldi to Mattioli or whether it was the result of an earlier purchase or change by Vitali.
