In this canvas De Pisis succeeds in blending outside and inside, painting a bouquet of flowers on the sill of a window, left wide open over the golden fields of the French South. The room portrayed is illuminated by the flowers and nothing seems to separate it from the air, scents and colors that invade it. If the left shutter is summarily outlined, the right one dissolves, in a loose formal conception that, without reaching abstraction, nevertheless surpasses all verism. The force and beauty of nature are the true subject of the painting, that imperium that truly knows no obstacles and overcomes, with its serene superiority, all artifice.
