William Kentridge. More Sweetly Play the Dance and Remembering Morandi

From February 6 to April 5, 2026 Free admission
William Kentridge

The exhibition presents a new project by the South African artist dedicated to Giorgio Morandi.
William Kentridge’s tribute to Giorgio Morandi, which is being presented to the public for the first time, is part of the exhibition program accompanying the major exhibition at Palazzo Reale, entitled Historical Metaphysics and the Metaphysics of Various Artistic Languages, from painting to cinema, on the occasion of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
An art walk connecting Palazzo Reale and Museo del Novecento to Gallerie d’Italia and Grande Brera, the heart of Milan.

Curated by Vincenzo Trione

The initiative is part of the exhibition program curated by Vincenzo Trione that accompanies the Palazzo Reale exhibition Metafisica/Metafisiche, on the occasion of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It brings together the masters of Metaphysical Art with their international “heirs” and “students” of the 20th and 21st centuries, in a single exhibition itinerary that links Palazzo Reale, Museo del Novecento, Gallerie d’Italia, and La Grande Brera.

Kentridge’s contribution consists of two parts: a video installation with sound and a series of cardboard sculptures that poetically reinterpret everyday objects, the protagonists of Morandi’s still lifes. It is a way of initiating an ideal dialogue with the metaphysical works of the Bolognese master preserved at Palazzo Citterio.

Metafisica/Metafisiche, promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Milan, produced by Palazzo Reale, Museo del Novecento, La Grande Brera-Palazzo Citterio, and Gallerie d’Italia, with the publishing house Electa, consists of a large exhibition at Palazzo Reale and three “exhibition chapters” in three major Milanese museums with a multidisciplinary program of initiatives for the city.
