The sculpture is in good condition. The original plaster of the work, which still exists (Rome, private collection) was exhibited at the 1948 Venice Biennale under the title Ritratto. The bronze version, on the other hand, was exhibited in the two extensive anthological exhibitions in Zurich (1962) and Rome (1966) and in 1978 in the one in Tokyo.

Emilio Jesi was certainly the greatest of Marini’s collectors and, like some of them, was effigyed in the same years in works of a surprising stylistic variety, justified, however, by the artist’s desire to express the “poetry” reposed in every human face.
